Monarchs Currency and Travel Language Apologies for the layout here, but I've put this up hastily. Climate is cyclical, and even with accurate data from the period, freak weather is possible, so these are guidelines. Also, weather changes frequently, which is why the English talk about it a lot! It is possible to have heatwaves and deep freezes, but both will be cause for much comment. Snow can happen, particularly on higher ground, but any quantity is unusual, especially near the coast. England, especially the west and south is washed by the warm Gulf Stream, which moderates the temperatures. The southwest (Penzance and Torquay) are mild in winter. Buxton, inland and elevated, generally has colder winters thaN lower spots. Durham on the northeast coast is statistically colder than Morecambe on the north west coast. Not, incidentally, Victoria on Vancouver Island. That lies in the rain shadow of the Olympics so it has a drier summer.
