Hermione Merryhew
Hermione Merryhew b 1794, d of Marquess of Carsheld.
Daughter of Marquess of Carsheld, seat in Northumberland, but neglected. Family moved to a modest estate in Hampshire. Quite poor. Mother brought nothing to the marriage. Father died 1813, mother 1814. Portions were 3,000 each. Jermyn, b 1785, Appollonia (Polly) b 1788, Roger b 1790, Hermione b 1794. Roger died 1809, Jermyn 1815. Cousin Porteous inherited estate. Hermione went to live with Polly. Hermione is 22 in 1817 when she re-encounters Mark. Polly m Sir John Williams and though she likes him she's a bit peeved at marrying low. They live in Holmfirth, Yorkshire, near Huddersfield. There's not a lot of money, so they're keen to butter up great-uncle Edgar Peake, a nabob, who lives on the Wirrall. They have three children, Billy b 1812 (5) Roger b 1814 (3) and Henrietta, b 1816 (1). Maternal grandparents are Havers. She was Ann Peake, sister of Edgar Peake. Too Dangerous for a Lady.
